Warmth and sun greeted the fans and drivers for the start of this afternoon 77 lap Hungarian Grand Prix with track temperature at a warm 30 degrees as the drivers made their way onto the circuit. All twenty drivers waited patiently for the start of the formation lap as fans filled the grandstands in anticipation. F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone shakes Rubens Barrichello's hand just before the Brazilian climbs into the cockpit of his F2002. With everyone strapped in and ready to go, the formation lap gets underway. Pole man Rubens Barrichello leads the pack around the Hungaroring as they await the start of the race.

It's go in Hungary! A clean start as Barrichello leads the way but the Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya has lost several positions and is back in seventh place, the Colombian finding it hard to control the FW24. Giancarlo Fisichella is up into fourth behind Ralf Schumacher. Kimi Raikkonen is up to 8th from 11th on the grid and is pressuring Montoya, who after the first lap is now over eight seconds behind the leading Ferrari. David Coulthard passes Nick Heidfeld for tenth spot. It appears as if Olivier Panis also had a bad start and is now down in 19th place.

As hard as Ralf tries, it appears as if he doesn't have much of a chance to better third place here this afternoon, the two Ferrari's pulling away at a second a lap. Anthony Davidson has a minor off down in twentieth place but gets back on track and continues on. Raikkonen continues to harry Montoya as the duo close in on sixth placed Jenson Button.

As expected, the race is slowly becoming a parade as drivers find it extremely hard to get past on the Budapest track. Lap ten and Barrichello comfortably leads his teammate by 1.2 seconds after the reigning world champion sets the fastest lap of the race so far. The race continues in the same vein with very little happening on track until the BAR of Jacques Villeneuve coming to a halt at the end of pit straight on lap 20.

Alex Yoong is watching the action from pit lane as Kimi Raikkonen attempts a pass on Montoya, however the Williams driver tries to defend the position, running wide in the process. Losing position to Coulthard and Trulli, the Williams appears damaged and Montoya pits for fuel and repairs. A heated discussion is taking place between Patrick Head and Sam Michael as the FW24 exits the pits and returns to the Hungaroring circuit in 19th place. Eddie Irvine becomes the second retirement of the day as the two Ferrari drivers put a lap on Montoya.

Anthony Davidson comes in for his first ever pit stop as Raikkonen begins to close on Jenson Button. Montoya's lap times are two seconds off his teammate's pace, obvious damage in the earlier incident paying a role here now. All the way up to 13th have been lapped now, but all bar Panis have stopped where the top 12 haven't. Lap 30 and the first of the top six pit, the Jordan of Giancarlo Fisichella. A nice stop for the Italian and he returns to the track in 11th place behind his teammate, Takuma Sato.

Michael Schumacher pits from a strong second place, a good stop for the German and he is now third behind his brother. Jenson Button spins off the track bringing his Hungarian GP to an end in the gravel trap as Rubens Barrichello comes in for his first stop. The only two men yet to pit are the McLarens of Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard in fourth and fifth. Lap 35 and Coulthard finally pits, his teammate in the next time around.

With the pit stop action out of the way for now we settle back into the race. Barrichello leads Schumacher with Ralf third, Fisichella fourth, Felipe Massa fifth, Kimi Raikkonen sixth, Coulthard seventh, Trulli eighth, Heidfeld ninth and Takuma Sato in tenth. 17 drivers remain with Anthony Davidson last and everyone up to Montoya in 11th lapped. The Colombian is having a torrid time with a damaged car, complaining that it is almost un-drivable but he continues to tour the circuit in the hope that something may happen later on.

Lap 44 and the two McLaren drivers begin to put the pressure on fifth placed Felipe Massa. Soon afterwards Coulthard loses the back end of his MP4-17 and goes off track but he regains the circuit without losing seventh place to Jarno Trulli.

Lap 52 and the second round of pit stops get underway, Takuma Sato in, along with Mark Webber. Problems for Webber, a 20 second stop as Fisichella is also in. Mika Salo and Pedro de la Rosa pit and almost collide on the way out with Salo taking the position. Massa in for his final stop and he returns right behind Fisichella. Ralf and Michael in as well with Barrichello soon afterwards. Although Michael could pass Rubens after the Brazilian's pit stop, he opts not to and Barrichello is back in the lead and looking set for the victory here this afternoon. With Michael finishing second, the Ferrari outfit will secure their fourth consecutive constructors title and Rubens will move into second place in the standings.

Coulthard pits and comes out in front of Fisichella and Massa after putting in some strong laps prior to his stop. The Scot is now nine seconds ahead of Fisichella so Raikkonen will definitely come out in front as well. In an out in 7.2 seconds for the young Finn and he retains fourth place. Anthony Davidson spins off the circuit and into the gravel putting an end to his most impressive Formula One debut.

Fourteen laps remaining and Barrichello continues to lead with Michael second, Ralf third, Raikkonen fourth, Coulthard fifth and Fisichella sixth. The laps tick down without incident and Barrichello crosses the line to claim his third Formula One victory with Michael Schumacher close behind! Congratulations Ferrari on your fourth consecutive world crown!
